Implications of Migration

Migrants and Remittances

Introduction and background: Remittances are personal monetary transfers, cross border or within the same country, made by migrants to individuals or communities with whom the migrant has links. Money sent home by migrants competes with international aid as one of the largest financial inflows to developing countries. Workers’ remittances are a significant part of international capital (money) flows, especially with regard to labour-exporting countries.
